Below are the roles we're hiring for within our Engineering
Teams:
Job Title: Gas Field Engineer - Job Family
Summary
To evaluate, design, and estimate natural gas distribution
facilities for new business, public and system improvement, and
maintenance projects according to company standards and other
applicable guidelines and codes. Natural gas distribution
facilities may consist of main lines, service lines, and
measurement & regulation equipment. The Engineer will provide
technical assistance and support for Construction and Field
Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and
maintenance of distribution facilities. Collaborate and coordinate
efforts with key stakeholders on large distribution projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate, design, and estimate natural gas distribution
facilities
Prepare permit applications and easement requests
Prepare detailed drawings
Compile capital work order / job order packets
Prepare budget estimates
Report on project variances
Support Operations employees in emergency situations
Provide training and guidance to new personnel
Act as liaison to state, county, and local government officials
Conduct winter preparedness reviews
Assist in contract bid documentation
Maintain MAOP documentation
Ensure safe and reliable delivery of energy services at best
cost
Meet or exceed internal/external customer expectations
Actual project costs are within 10% of estimated costs
Safe/efficient high quality engineering designs that comply with
policies, practices, standards, and applicable codes
Productivity and performance results that meet or exceed
expectations
Timely delivery of all facility designs
Consistent communication with key stakeholders and business
partners
Ensure post and pre winter operation system reviews are held
Required Qualifications for Position
Bachelor's degreein engineeringfrom a4 year ABET (Accreditation
Board for Engineering---and Technology)---accredited program.
Obtain EIT Certification within 2 years of hire date
Applies to new hires or those transferring into any of the
following gas engineering job families:--- field engineering,
design engineering; gas systems planning; standards.
Obtain P.E. license within 6 years of hire date for state primarily
working in---
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
Master's degree in business or engineering
Professional Engineering license
The successful gas engineering candidate will be selected for one
of the four levels (see below) of the job family based on their
experience and education:
Associate Field Engineer 1
Associate Field Engineer 2
Field Engineer
Sr. Field Engineer
Electric Engineer/Specialist Job Family (Only located within our
Indiana Territory)
To evaluate, design, estimate, and project manage the maintenance
and construction of electric distribution systems. Design and
manage all projects in accordance with applicable requirements,
standards and codes, ensuring safe, reliable service to customers
in an efficient, economical manner. Prepare detailed drawings,
permits, easements, material estimates and reservations, and all
other documents required for project completion. Communicate
effectively with all major stakeholders including Operations,
Engineering Records, Electric System Planning, Budget Analysts and
customers.
Responsibilities:
Projects/External Customers
Promotes and assures safe working environment and public
safety.
Manages capital and O&M budgets while designing work.
Manages maintenance/system improvement projects to ensure timely
completion of compliance and/or system related issues.
Manage customer requirements for electric service by meeting
customer and project milestones within a timely manner.
Design/manage electric utility projects utilizing effective project
management techniques.
Prepare/complete complex detailed CAD drawings, permits, easements,
other relevant documents, and document projects in computerized
systems, (CIS, Maximo, etc.) for each project.
Coordinate fieldwork on projects; provide engineering direction and
synchronization with outside agencies, internal departments, and/or
customer representatives.
Provide engineering solutions that effectively meet the needs of
the customer and Company while still adhering to the financial
goals of the Company and maintain projects within budgetary
constraints.
Work a flexible schedule, including overtime, as needed to meet
engineering needs.
Maintenance/Internal Customers
Provide NIPSCO departments with technical expertise to help solve
operational problems.
Provide cost effective solutions and follow through to resolve
requirements.
Provide support to Operations during gas and electric system
interruptions and outages, including storm restoration.
Evaluate electric system performance, analysis of weaknesses, and
provide solutions for improvement as needed.
Business/Compliance
Complete Learning Management System (LMS) Modules prior to due
date
Comply with all Safety Standards and Practices
Monitor Hold/In-Service/Supplemental Reports and address items in a
timely manner.
Attend yearly Peer Review meetings to forecast the following year's
budget.
Submit timesheets and expense reports on their due date.
Understand Incident Reporting Procedures
Qualifications:
This position will be filled as an Engineer or Specialist depending
on degree and experience.
Engineer I / Specialist I
Graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university
with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR Engineering
Technology
Understanding of basic engineering/technical theories and
principles
Understanding of basic practices of researching technical design
issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and
preparing and presenting recommendations
Ability to read/interpret drawings/standards to analyze/solve
problems.
Knowledge of computer applications such as AutoCAD
Knowledge of electric engineering
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various
socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills
Valid Driver's License
Ability to perform duties under close supervision.
Desired Qualifications
Understanding of basic principles of project management
PMP Certification
Experience in the electric utility industry
The successful electric field engineering candidate will be
selected for one of the eight levels (see below) of the job family
based on their experience and education:
Engineer Level I / Specialist I
Engineer Level II / Specialist II
Engineer Level III / Specialist III
Sr. Engineer / Senior Specialist
