Description FLSA Status: Exempt Employment Type: Seasonal,
Part-Time Department: Recreation / Aquatics Reports To: Head Swim
Team Coach Summary: The Assistant Swim Team Coach is a seasonal,
part-time position responsible for assisting with the safe,
organized, and effective coaching of the Swim Team. This position
supports swim practices and competitions, supervises swimmers,
reinforces proper swim techniques, and ensures compliance with
policies and aquatic safety standards. Work Schedule: This is a
seasonal, part-time summer position. The season will run from June
8 – July 25 and the hours will be Monday – Friday from 5:00 – 7:15
pm for practices and five (5) swim meets which will occur on
weekday evenings or weekend mornings. Benefits: Fitness Membership

and Golf The Assistant Swim Team Coach will receive a $1,800
stipend Essential Duties/Job Responsibilities: The following duties
are representative but not all-inclusive: Demonstrate proper swim
techniques to participants both in the water and on the pool deck.
Provide instruction and coaching to swimmers during practices and
competitions. Assist the Head Swim Team Coach in executing safe,
organized, and effective swim practices and meets. Supervise swim
team members during practices, meets, and related activities to
ensure safety and appropriate behavior. Assist with programming and
operation of the timing system during home swim meets. Attend
parent meetings and communicate professionally with
parents/guardians regarding swimmer progress, expectations, and
team participation. Assist with data entry and maintenance of
swimmer information in swim meet software. Provide the Head Coach
with swimmer line-ups by the Friday prior to each meet. Enter
swimmers from both districts into swim software by the Monday prior
to a meet. Complete swimmer event slips, including swimmer name,
event name, event number, and lane assignment, by the Tuesday prior
to a meet. Assist with setup and teardown on competition days,
including lane lines, flags, lifeguard chairs, and equipment.
Attach labels to ribbons, organize awards, and distribute to
swimmers following meets. Prevent accidents through the enforcement
of Park District policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances
governing aquatic facilities. Know, follow, and consistently
enforce all pool rules and policies in a professional and courteous
manner. Complete all required trainings as assigned by the Head
Coach or Park District staff. Accurately complete all incident and
accident reports as required. Maintain regular communication with
the Head Swim Team Coach regarding team operations and swimmer
needs. Qualifications Qualifications: Minimum age of 17 years.
Minimum of two (2) years of swim team experience. CPR/AED & First
Aid certification is required prior to the first swim practice.
Reliable transportation required for travel to and from away swim
meets. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong people skills and
commitment to customer service. Ability to communicate effectively
with swimmers, parents/guardians, coaching staff, and Park District
personnel. Knowledge of swim team operations, meet procedures, and
competitive swim techniques. Strong organizational skills with
attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to observe swimmer and
staff behavior, identify safety concerns, and enforce rules
appropriately. Ability to maintain professionalism, good
sportsmanship, and a positive work ethic. Physical, Cognitive and
Environmental Requirements: Ability to walk long distances (over
800 yards) and stand for extended periods (2–3 hours). Ability to
bend, kneel, reach, and lift supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements while using
computer software. Ability to work effectively under potentially
stressful conditions, including aquatic emergencies. Ability to
make quick, sound decisions to ensure swimmer safety. Ability to
work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including cold, rain,
and extreme heat. Cognitive ability to multi-task, meet deadlines,
exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
