Job Title: Environmental/Natural Resource CoordinatorJob
SummaryEnvironmental/Natural Resources Permitting is expected to be
able to communicate and use their judgment to involve other
technical experts, management, attorneys, and governmental
personnel as warranted under the particular circumstances. These
positions are responsible for developing, interpreting, and
implementing policies, plans, and procedures dealing with a wide
variety of environmental policy, permitting, remediation, and
compliance issues. Issues addressed by these positions vary on a
daily basis and are routinely related to federal, state, or local
regulations. Additionally, these positions may be involved in
preparing, obtaining, and implementing permits or approvals from
federal, state or local organizations. Activities may vary
considerably from day to day and often employees will work
independently at locations different from their immediate
supervisor.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesTypical duties for
each job are described below. The amount of time specific employees
spend on each duty will vary.Environmental Coordinator I* Typically
performs duties assigned by environmental management.* Work
independently and use professional judgment, the employee is likely
to review recommendations with their immediate supervisor.* Trains
field construction and operations personnel on environmental
programs, systems, policies and guidelines.* Prepares summaries,
interpretations, etc. for field construction and operations on the
requirements of new or existing air, water, waste, or natural
resource requirements.* Advises construction and operations
environmental requirements necessary for simple projects along with
associated timeframes.* Works closely with construction and
operations personnel to oversee and maintain environmental
programs, systems and procedures.* Prepares technical materials or
independently collects data to assist more senior staff in the
addressing complex air, water, waste or natural resource
environmental issues. Addresses simple environmental issues.*
Implements and maintains budgets or other financial
information.Environmental Coordinator II* Includes all of the
Environmental Coordinator I duties.* Addresses moderately complex
environmental issues.* Negotiates simple issues with state, federal
or county regulators.* Develops and regularly updates environmental
training materials, programs, systems, or procedures for individual
facilities.* Develops new training materials, programs, systems, or
procedures for moderately complex issues.* Manage third party
consultants to address increasingly complex specific issues or
systematic environmental issues.* Expected to more independently
understand when to seek assistance from attorneys, other experts,
governmental officials to assess and act on environmental
situations.Environmental Coordinator III* Includes all of the
Environmental Coordinator II duties.* Revises existing
environmental training materials, programs, systems or procedures
for all facilities within operating companies.* Develops new
training materials, programs, systems or procedures for complex
environmental issues.* Addresses complex environmental issues.*
Acts as a company representative for interaction with regulatory
agencies, inspections, etc. Determines when to seek advice from
Counsel and negotiates potential noncompliance issues with
regulators on complex issues.* Prepares Policies, Plans and
Procedures to be implemented across multiple operating companies.
Develop or oversee development holistic environmental plans for
construction projects and operating areas.* Effectively works
independently or as a member of a project team or leader of a
project team of Coordinators.* Recognized as a Company
expert.Environmental Permitting Principal* Includes all of the
duties of the Environmental Coordinator III or has a full
understanding of that role. Advanced degree preferred.* Works very
independently and oversees staff assigned on projects they
supervise.* Recognized as an industry expert.* Independently
develops budgets for large projects or work in a specialized area.
Prepares technical specifications and works directly with Supply
Chain to retain contractors to work in specialized areas. Manages
the work done by those contractors, approves invoices, negotiates
technical and financial details of projects, change orders, etc.*
Collaborates with internal environmental teams or other business
units on innovative ways to approach operations issues in ways that
improve the environmental sustainability and integrity of NiSource
infrastructure.* Manages junior staff, contract employees, and/or a
complimentary or supporting function of the environmental program.*
Develops or oversees the development of policies, plans or
procedures applicable across the Company.* Prepares and presents
briefings to senior environmental or other business unit
management.* Has the ability to assess business conditions,
identify opportunities, develop programs, and build processes from
a multifunctional, cross-process perspective to enhance corporate
business positions.* Has well developed leadership skills with a
strong desire to act as a role model and mentor for other technical
professionals.* Provides business value by commanding an area of
environmental subject matter, applying initiatives to leverage that
understanding and building strategic competitive advantages for
NiSource or its operating companies.Required Qualifications for
PositionEnvironmental Coordinator I* College degree in Engineering,
Environmental Science, Meteorology, Biology, Ecology, Geology,
Forestry, or other technical related field. Equivalent work
experience may be substituted.* Work independently and use
professional judgment.* Trains field construction and operations
personnel on environmental programs, systems, policies and
guidelines.* Prepares summaries, interpretations, etc. for field
construction and operations on the requirements of new or existing
air, water, waste, or natural resource requirements.* Experience
implementing and maintaining budgets or other financial

Environmental Coordinator I requirements.* Experience negotiating
simple issues with state, federal or county regulators.* Experience

requirements.* Experience revising existing environmental training
materials, programs, systems or procedures for all facilities
within operating companies and develops new training materials,
programs, systems or procedures for complex environmental issues.*

Qualifications for Position* B.S. or M.S. in Environmental
Planning, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Engineering, or
related degree.* 5 to 15+ years of progressive Environmental
Permitting experience in either a consulting environment or working
substantially for Electric Power/Renewables Sector
(wind/solar/Hydro) including substantial experience with renewable
generation, transmission, and distribution markets in North
