*WORK SCHEDULE: M - F, 40+ hrs./week JOB CATEGORY: $12-$13/hour*

Valpo Parks is hiring Seasonal Park Maintenance Laborers at multiple park locations throughout the city. The Seasonal Park Maintenance Laborer is an entry level position that supports the Park Operations staff in a wide variety of daily operations related to the upkeep and maintenance of park grounds, playgrounds, trails, buildings, equipment, and natural areas within the City of Valparaiso.


Responsibilities include the following:


* Trash collection and disposal

* Cleaning Park facilities and services restrooms, including sweeping/mopping floors, cleaning toilets and urinals, removing trash and replacing trash bags, cleaning walls and ceilings, and restocking soap and paper products as needed.

* Maintains shelters and rental buildings, including sweeping floors, removing trash and replacing trash bags, wiping off tables/seats, dusting, and cleaning windows

* Maintains playground and boxes

* Mowing & trimming

* Sport Field maintenance

* Event setup and take down including hauling tables, chairs, crowd control barricades, popup tents, staging and/or other items as needed

* Other duties as assigned


Seasonal Park Maintenance Laborers regularly operates various trucks/equipment/tools in the performance of duties, including tractors, mowers, weed eaters/trimmers, backpack or handled blowers, hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, air compressor, air nozzle, shovels, rakes, brooms, mops, and other equipment/tools as needed.


This position provides an opportunity to interact with and learn alongside skilled staff in the park maintenance division and other careers in unique industry fields and skilled trades work.


This seasonal position is available from April - November but is also available for students seeking a summer work opportunity, as well as other times available out of school.


*PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:*


Incumbent performs duties primarily in outdoor facilities, involving sitting/walking at will, sitting/standing/walking for long periods, bending/reaching, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, crouching/kneeling, handling/grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication, speaking clearly, color perception, and close/far vision/depth perception.


Incumbent may be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures, and fumes, odors, dust, dirt, noise.
